If you’ve ever experienced sciatica or sciatic pain, you know how extremely painful and even debilitating it can be.
What is it?
Sciatica or sciatic nerve pain is caused by pressure or irritation to the sciatic nerve.
Now the sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body.
- it originates from the lower back,
- travels through some big muscles in your gluteus then travels down the back of the leg, down at the knee,
- it will spoil into two branches, one will go down the front of the leg to the top of your foot while the other will travel behind the lower leg to behind the ankle.
Watch the video below as I describe, what sciatica is, its causes, and non-surgical relief options (including 4 stretches)
Please note, this exercises will effectively give relief from sciatic pain caused by muscle tightness of the gluteal muscles of which the nerve passes through.
If you find this does not relieve the pain, then it is likely that there may be a lower back problem. In these cases, I encourage you to see your chiropractor. They will assess your lower back and see if there are any issues. They can assess the function or stability of the lower spine that can be addressed without the use of drugs or surgery.
